A+ Performance: Christie to NBC’s David Gregory: ‘I wish you guys were as tough on the president’

On Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took a jab at moderator David Gregory and the media for being tougher on Mitt Romney than President Barack Obama ahead of this week’s presidential debate.

“David, I wish you guys were just as tough on the president,” Christie said. “The president says he’s going to create a million new manufacturing jobs. He doesn’t say how. He says he’s going to reduce the long-term debt and deficit by $4 trillion. Doesn’t say how he’s going to do it. I mean, let’s be fair here. Gov. Romney has laid out a direction and a vision for the direction of this country. He’s not an accountant. He is not going to go line-by-line — as much as you would like him to do — through the budget. But let’s hold the president to the same standard and criticize him as well, because how does he create a million new manufacturing jobs, David? He hasn’t told anybody the specifics of that. How is he going to reduce $4 trillion in debt? We’re still waiting to hear what he thinks about Simpson-Bowles, which he commissioned. I mean, he’s been the president and hasn’t given us specifics. So, let’s be fair, here.”

“Every once in a while in a campaign, as a candidate I can tell you, you’re going to say something that comes out of your mouth the wrong way,” Christie continued. “But here’s what he believes: He believes that every American should have the opportunity for greatness. He believes that every American should be part of a shared sacrifice to fix the problems that are besieging our country, that everyone should have skin in that game. I believe the American people will rise to that challenge and elect Mitt Romney because he is the one articulating that challenge, not the happy talk that the president is giving us that things are bumps in the road, things are just small problems. The country knows we have big problems, David, that we’re not confronting. And the president’s happy talk for the next 36 days is not going to anesthetize the American people.”

Just looking at the comments here, and the reactions. I'd say Gregory may have some soul searching to do in about 35 days.

The media, David Gregory have got to be stopped. They are bogus journalists who have no intention of telling the American public both sides, without bias. They are in bed with Obama and the entire Leftist movement. However, Obama goes beyond LEFT, he is going to destroy this country, if re-elected, and those journalists will go down just like the rest of us.

David Gregory is laughable as a reporter. He makes The National Enquirer and Star Magazine reporters look like they should with the Pulitzer Prize.

Here's the biggest issue. The media is supposed to be the exposer and revelators of the governing body. It's supposed to be their job to tell the truth about issues, but this is a job the media has abdicated a long time ago. I suggest that if you are really concerned about this country you do your own research. Look into things yourself, or at least go to opposing sources compare their coverage. You can usually tell which one is feeding you the truth and which is trying to put a positive spin on bad situations.

Christie is making the point that Romney will give you straight talk not the Crap that Obama has been spooning out.

Do Americans/the country REALLY know you have big problems? From where we're sitting ... granted, way away from the action ... it doesn't look like the majority do, if polls and commentators on Fox, CNN, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, WP, NYT and others we have access to on the internet, are to be believed! It's kinda weird. We love Governor Christie. We r a group of teens, most who lean toward the fiscal conservative view, who are presently studying US politics. It is very confusing to us how the media doesn't seem to be fair in their analysis. Shouldn't the job of journalists be to bring a balanced view on all arguments to the public so that they (the public/voters) can make an informed choice? Too many questions, but we are fascinated by US politics, especially right at this time. We r teens in New Zealand.

Christie clearly came up short on this mornings meet the press. I thought he was about to need a bilge pump to stay afloat.

I agree with Christie everyone misspeaks every once in a while,or say something that comes out wrong..But it is the main stream media who will pick it up and keep playing it over and over again..Then when Odumbo does the same thing they turn a blind eye..

the only reason it's done damage is because of "journalists" like david gregory who are rooting for Obama's reelection. they are an extension of Obama's campaign team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not all Americans are ignorant to Obama and the media. I live in rural GA, the SE. Most of the people I know support Romney and are angry at the obvious love-fest the media has with O. The people I know that will vote O do it for one issue. Like - they receive gov assistance or support of gay marriage. For myself, I realize that during I'd admin there has been a fundamental shift and decline for America. This isn't what I want for my children. I actually FEAR 4 more years under O.

TeAni: You ask a very critical question here. Our media is very guilty of spinning things in favor of Obama's fantasy-lie that America's problems are nothing to worry about. Our problems are HUGE and they worry the HELL out of most Americans! Adding to these problems is that we CAN'T believe what is being spoon-fed to use by that media. Personally, I believe the ONLY chance we have is to put a real fiscal conservative (Romney) into the currently "empty chair" in the White House. Clearly, Obama is anything BUT a fiscal conservative. The media SHOULD be providing balanced information, but they are notorious for not playing fair. For intelligent well-read Americans, this is an irritation, an annoyance . . . but not insurmountable. On the other hand, for the undereducated masses, the media has become a bible of sorts. If they hear it on TV, it MUST be true. These are the same people who believe the trashy headlines on the scandal rags. It's a mentality of which I'm sure the media is well-aware, and they count on it to promote their liberal agenda. The people to whom they pander are NOT going to listen to reason. They are NOT going to independently read/listen to other sources, or do any fact-checking. They simply cannot accept the truth. No. They don't want to hear the truth, and risk bursting their little utopian bubbles. They only care about how much "FREE" stuff they can get from the government (Obama) because they do not understand that he isn't doing them any favors by perpetuating the non-productive lifestyles they lead. The media plays a huge role here, and surely must accept a share of the blame for the lousy situation this country is in today. I love the fact that you are teens with a real interest in our politics. You are in a unique position to learn from our mistakes. I wish you all the best.

But not as short as the security detail Obama FAILED to provide Ambassador Stevens.

This is exactly how we see it Downunder. Not sure we'd use that name for your President, but then, we don't live there, so need to be respectful. :)
