Actor’s “Ice Bucket” Spinoff Urges Celebrities to Call Out “Racist Cops”

Samuel L. Jackson has called upon his fellow celebrities to “sing the ‘People Are Free’ song” which invokes the war-cry of “I can’t breathe” in the lyrics. The video has already made the rounds on the internet, with many supporters posting videos of them singing the absurd song. It sounds like more social-media social justice to me, on the same plane as really upset hashtags. But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.

This video comes on the heels of the grand jury decisions in the Mike Brown and Eric Garner cases, in which both officers were not indicted. Racial tensions are at an all-time high right now, and instead of doing what he can to calm the situation, Jackson adds fuel to the fire by challenging celebrities to sing a song about “racist police.” This is absolutely shameful and in the end, it’s not going to do anything except flood the internet with videos of people who think they’re doing a good thing.

Hey Samuel, how about a harder challenge like asking people to sing a song about obeying the law and respecting police? Or does that not fit into your narrative?
