BEHNA: Donald Trump’s “2nd Amendment” Bad Comment Could Have Been Prevented

Social media has erupted after Donald Trump made a comment about the 2nd Amendment at a North Carolina rally on Tuesday.

If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do. Although the 2nd Amendment people maybe there is.

I’m guessing he wasn’t reading a teleprompter when he said this.

In response to the outrage, the Trump campaign and many of its supporters claimed he was referring to going to the polls and vote to prevent Hillary Clinton winning.

But the problem is he never mentioned anything about “voting” or going to the polls in his original comment. Even if others interpreted it this way, not all 320 million Americans in this country are going to think the same thing. There’s no doubt there are a lot of “low info” voters in this country, but that is precisely why Trump should have clearly explained at the rally that he meant voting against Hillary in November. He needs to connect the dots for these individuals, because they can’t do it themselves.

Also because he never clarified the meaning of his statement at the rally, his comment will end up giving more fuel to the anti-gun activists, who will use it against 2nd Amendment supporters. Those who back Trump won’t want to admit this, but if he would have been more precise and explained what he meant, the media wouldn’t be able to politicize his comment.

Plus, instead of his supporters trying to defend anything he says that’s questionable, perhaps the real cure would be teaching Trump to avoid these gaffes and vague statements in the first place. If its an off the cuff statement, that is Trump’s responsibility to prevent from happening again. If his 2nd Amendment comment was exactly written from his speech, that is the speechwriter’s responsibility.

Of course the media is still to blame for a decades long record of showing so much liberal bias, but Trump could limit the ammunition given to the media if he was simply more clear, precise, and careful with his statements. But regardless, the damage is done, whether or not anyone thinks the comment was ok or not. The Trump campaign can try to clarify Trump’s words, but the media and his critics won’t care. They will run with Trump’s own words and use it for future commercial ads against him. He can’t control the out of control liberal media, but what he can control is being more wise and precise with his word choice in the first place.
