BEHNA: Here’s 3 Points Mike Pence Should Mention In VP Presidential Debate

Tuesday night marks the Vice Presidential debate between Former Indiana Governor Mike Pence (R-IN) and U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA).

With Donald Trump experiencing a slip in the polls since the first Presidential debate, Pence has a chance to bring in damage control and gain some ground Tuesday night. Here’s 3 points he needs to do to win tomorrow night’s debate.

1) Be on the offensive. There is only a month left before the election, so there is no time to be playing defense. Pence can start by going after Kaine’s record. For an individual claiming to be a devout Catholic, it doesn’t come to anyone’s surprise that Kaine is staunchly pro-abortion, and this is an issue that shouldn’t be overlooked. Pence should include there is no such thing as being “personally pro-life.” One is either for life or not.

tim-kaine2) This debate shouldn’t be only about the Presidential candidates, but about the VP candidates as well. They were chosen as running mates for a reason, so he should also explain his record as Indiana governor, and why he thinks he would make a better VP than Kaine. This is simply because it is a team effort, not just about Trump or Clinton.

3) Mike Pence also needs to talk in simple, common sense terms that would resonate with voters. Bringing up some of the disastrous statistics under the last eight years of Obama is okay, but shouldn’t be overused. One of the best points Pence could reiterate is that Hillary Clinton would be a third Obama term, which sounds like an unpopular concept to many voters. And if Pence gets criticized by his opponent, he needs to respond in a way that would put Kaine back on the defense.

I’ve mentioned before that I do not like either Trump or Hillary, but objectively speaking, this would help Pence if he follows these points above. There is no time to stay reserved. He needs to go all out to have any chance to bounce back in the polls.
