It appears that Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo announced today that the city is planning to sue Fox News for ‘insulting’ them.
Here are the following comments.
When we’re insulted, and when we’ve had an image, then I think we’ll have to sue, I think we’ll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed. The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced. And I think in the great discussion of truth everyone is to play its role. And we’re going to have to be realistic and put things as they are.
Afterwards, when asked for specifics, Hidalgo referred to Fox News.
By the word ‘insulted’ Hidalgo referred to the times Fox has included Paris and other parts of Europe having ‘no-go zones.’
Over the weekend, several Fox News hosts, including Judge Jeanine Pirro as shown below, apologized over the now infamous statement of one of the guests calling Birmingham ‘totally Muslim.’ She noted that 22% of that population was Muslim, and that there was no legitimate source for claiming Birmingham is a ‘no-go zone.’
Fox & Friends and their apology.
A couple other hosts issued apologies as well.
But notice when liberal sources like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC make controversial statements, they’re always let go with a pass. However when it is Fox News, some folks think they have to go to court if their speech is considered offensive.
And does the mayor seriously want to take this to court? Isn’t there something called Free Speech? If its libel for example, that could be taken to court, but not if its speech that is merely offensive to someone. Only time will tell to see how this potential lawsuit plays out.
