Celebrating Easter In A Hostile World

Around the world Christians from all nations are celebrating Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christ warned his disciples of his impending death and made the promise to rise again on the third day, a promised that He kept. Christ also gave us warnings about the times in which we now live, warnings about things we can now see happening.

In other parts of the world Christians are being slaughtered for proclaiming their faith, while Christians here in America feel we are being persecuted for living according to our faith. For one American however, the persecution is much more serious. Pastor Saeed Abedini has been held in an Iranian prison for more than two and a half years because he is a former Muslim who converted to Christianity and committed the terrible crime of worshiping with other Christians.

The Obama administration has been negotiating with Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, over the best way to allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. The historic sell-out of Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East, has just been announced and, to no one’s surprise, it came with no mention of Pastor Abedini’s release.

Clearly, religious freedom is not a priority for Barack Obama; at least not for anyone that is not Muslim.

America should not be in the business of negotiating with terrorists, nor should we be negotiating with those who support and finances them. No deal should have ever been contemplated that would result in a nuclear armed Iran. At the very least, the release of Pastor Abedini should have been a pre-requisite to the start of any conversation with Iran, but Pastor Saeed is not a Muslim convert who deserted from his military post, so Obama was apparently not interested in winning his freedom.

As we Christians turn our minds to the incredible sacrifice Christ made for us, let us remember to keep our fellow Christians around the world in our prayers, especially those who are being murdered by followers of the “religion of peace”. Please remember Pastor Abedini and his family as they again celebrate the resurrection of Christ separated by a prison cell in Iran, and pray for our country as the enemies of Christ seek to destroy the religious freedom America was founded upon. Most of all, give thanks to the Son of God for taking upon himself the sins of the world, so that we might have everlasting life.
