GOP candidate Senator Ted Cruz sat down with Meet The Press Chuck Todd in Iowa on Sunday to discuss a wide range of issues that included frontrunner Donald Trump, Marco Rubio , Iowa ethanol and working conditions with Democrat Nancy Pelosi .
The latter is what strikes me spidey senses because just a few weeks ago, Conservative Talk Radio host and Cruz supporter Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh blasted Trump for saying he could work with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats. Limbaugh even called it a red flag:
LIMBAUGH: And now here comes Trump bragging on MSNBC, “I will work with Democrats,” touting his friendships with Democrat leaders in the House and the Senate. Maybe he thinks he’s already got the primaries wrapped up. Maybe he thinks he’s got the nom. I don’t know, but this is the kind of thing the establishment, the mainstream Republican leadership in Washington, this is the kind of thing that they advocate.
LEVIN: He just talks up Pelosi. He just talks up Reid. He just talks up Schumer. And he trashes the hell out of the most conservative Senator in the United States Senate. That’s incredible! This is an incredible audio to me!
It’s not a matter of getting along with people and cutting deals. It’s a matter of moving the country, persuading the country, persuading the Republican Party to follow you, to move with you. That’s what a statesman does. That’s what Churchill did. That’s what Thatcher did. That’s what Reagan did. That’s what you have to do!
Now for some people this is perfectly fine. I’m troubled by it.
Cruz also something else that gave me pause because if you noticed, no Senators have really jumped on Cruz’s bandwagon:
“In my entire time of the Senate I’ve treated every member of the Senate with civility and respect,” Cruz responded.
“I don’t think Mitch McConnell would say that,” Todd remarked.
Who is this guy and where is this narrative coming from?
Will Levin and Limbaugh have red flags with Cruz now that he’s also stated he will work with Pelosi. Let’s watch to see if this happens.
