CT Governor Poll Shows A Dead Heat

WAAR DECISION DESK 2014A Quinnipiac University poll conducted on Wednesday showed a tie between Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy and Republican candidate Tom Foley at 43-43. Although the Independent candidate, Joe Visconti, gathered 9 percent of supporters, he doesn’t appear to hurt or help the other two candidates. Without Visconti, Malloy and Foley are tied at 46-46.

Despite the current tie, this poll appears to be good news to Malloy, who had a 6 point deficit in a Quinnipiac poll last month. He managed to gain support from women and reduced his deficit among men as well, who currently favor Foley. Malloy has an 11 point lead among the women, whereas Foley has an 11 point lead among men.

Quinnipiac concluded that Malloy’s attack ads have been effective, as Foley’s favorability score has decreased and his negativity score has increased compared to the previous poll.

The poll included 1,085 likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points. While 74% of voters said they have already made up their mind, there are still 25% of voters who said they could change their mind for the election.

This means both candidates will need to do whatever it takes to solidify their support among these key voting demographics. The gender gap is evident as well, and both sides will work hard in the final month to reduce their respective deficits.
