Immigration reform has been at the top of the Obama administration’s “to-do” list for quite some time. But apparently the president is growing impatient waiting for the Republicans to come to an agreement on just how far the legislation will go which is why Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and others are attempting to intimidate Speaker John Boehner into passing an immigration bill…. or else.
Four Senate Democratic leaders told reporters on Thursday they want House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to bring legislation to the floor “before the August break,” or else President Obama would begin taking executive action on immigration issues.
“Here is the bottom line,” Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said. “They have about a six-week window, from June 10 after the last Republican primary till the August recess. If they don’t pass immigration reform then, the president will have no choice but to act on his own.”
Allow me to translate: “If they don’t pass immigration reform then, the president will have no choice but to act on his own” means, “Give Obama exactly what he wants or else he will act outside of his constitutional powers to force his will on the people.” Despite their thug-like attempt at intimidation, Schumer, Obama and the rest of the Democrats know that the president does not have the constitutional authority to act on his own on this issue.
By the way, does Schumer not realize that he has acknowledged that his position in the Senate is completely unnecessary? If Obama can just act on his own on something as huge as immigration reform without approval from Congress, what are we paying all of these politicians for anyway? At this rate, everyone would just pack up, go home and relinquish their pay and benefits. Then we could all collectively acknowledge that our once Republic has been turned into a banana republic where Barry Obama is officially king.
