People have the ability to find humor in a lot of things that wouldn’t normally be seen as funny. There are a few things however, that should never be made into a joke. Never make a joke to a bank teller about a robbery, don’t ever use the word “bomb” or shout “Hi Jack!” on an airplane, and whatever you do, do NOT post an ad on Facebook trying to sell your baby.
According to police in Beaumont Texas, someone did just that and included a picture to help make the sale. An ad posted in a private Facebook group read “Baby for sale. Best offer? Btw, I’m located in Beaumont must pick her up”. The ad has since been removed by the page administrator and police have been unable to identify the person who posted the ad.
I hope this was a joke because I would hate to know the child was in the care of someone who would treat her like an unwanted kitten. Joke or not posting such an ad is a felony and police are serious about finding and prosecuting the offender, just as they should be. Since there is no way of knowing for sure the ad was not a serious attempt at selling a child, police have no option but to investigate it as though it was. If it turns out to be a joke it will be an expensive and time consuming one, and a serious waste of resources for law enforcement.
If this was not a joke, the child in the picture is in serious danger. Please, if you recognize this child contact the Beaumont Police Department and give them any information you might have that will help them locate the child before any harm comes to her, or contact the Texas Department of Child and Protective Services hotline at 1-800-252-5400.
