Neighbors reported that Hendrix had arrived at her home about 1 a..m. to find the three burglars, and she immediately engaged them, shooting and wounding one before succumbing to return fire.
Police arrived to find her dead in her yard and wounded man on the ground across the street. The getaway vehicle was discovered a short distance away with bullet holes through the windshield.
The victim’s brother, Ronnie Lollis, described her as both a good woman who would help anybody and a fighter who refused to be an easy victim.
Lollis related that his sister’s home had been robbed in 2011, and though he worried about her and wanted her to move, she instead on staying and bought a gun, training with it regularly.
Neighbors claim that the same pack of thugs had tried to rob the old woman in the past. One told a local media outlet, “I think it’s the same people out to rob her. I think they knew she had money on her.”
All of the suspects — some of whom were wounded — were charged with murder.
This story is tragic, but also an important reminder of how critical our Second Amendment rights are. If we don’t have the right to defend ourselves, our homes, and our family from criminals, then we are just sitting ducks.
