Entitlement Run Wild: Man Sues First Responders Who Saved His Life

As I was listening to Larry O’Conner and Dan Bongino talk about this story on WMAL this morning, my head literally was about to explode. Brace yourselves.

(Fox News Latino) Roy Ortiz is happy to have survived a near drowning in September in a series of devastating Colorado floods, trapped in his half-submerged car for almost two hours.

Yet he’s not so content being stuck with nearly $40,000 in medical bills. He said his rescuers are partly to blame, for taking too long to get to him, causing psychological damage and problems with one shoulder, according to comments he gave to various Colorado media outlets.

The Broomfield, Colo., resident is planning to sue his rescuers for $500,000, a move his lawyer called a “preventive” act. Ortiz is also going after Boulder County, saying they’re accountable for allowing Ortiz to drive across the flooded road.

Yes my friends, this fool wants to SUE the first responders that saved his life. There are so many things wrong with this scenario, it’s hard to decide where to begin. I’ll start with the rampant attitude of entitlement that is so pervasive in our society today. This man touts his credentials, says he’s worked for the same company for 17 years, co-pastors a church and has “never caused trouble.” Yet when asked about his legal status? His lawyer says it’s “irrelevant.”

Are you kidding me with this??

So let’s review. This stellar pillar of society is possibly here illegally, had his life saved by first responders who put their lives at risk on a daily basis, and he feels their rescue was too slow so he’s going to sue them. This truly makes my head spin. What an insult to first responders everywhere.

The other issue is the fact that our society is entirely overly litigious. So many people are looking to make a few bucks off a lawsuit and I think Mr. Ortiz is no exception. The fact that it’s not even clear if this guy is here legally in the first place, yet wants to use our legal system to punish the people who saved his life is truly mind numbing.

What are you thoughts? Is Mr. Ortiz within his rights? Do you feel this is an insult to first responders everywhere? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
