Woman Fired for Reporting Sexual Harrassment

Female Reports Sexual Harassment to Management; Fired The Next Day

April Holt, was working on an assembly line when a coworker asked if he could borrow her wrench. The wrench was sticking out of her back pocket. Before Holt had a chance to respond, the co-worker reached all the way inside Holt’s pocket and grabbed her buttocks while grabbing the wrench.

Holt reported the harassment to her supervisor, who relayed the complaint to the factory’s upper management. Holt was fired the next day.

Because it is illegal to retaliate against an employee who reports discrimination, the EEOC has filed a lawsuit against Daimler Trucks North America.

“People who complain about behavior that they reasonably believe to be harassment should be free to do so without threat of reprisal,” said EEOC attorney Lynette A. Barnes. “The EEOC will continue to litigate complaints of retaliation made by employees who are simply attempting to protect their rights.”

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit against Daimler Trucks North America for allegedly firing a female employee out of retaliation when she reported a sexual harassment incident.
