After a morning of great speeches from leaders like Governor Rick Perry (TX), Col. Oliver North, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and others, we can emphatically say that based on the size of the crowd and the their reaction, Rand Paul topped them all! Before the speech, the room filled up to standing room only (which had not h
appened during the previous speeches). The crowd looked much different than it had the day before or even earlier that day. There was a sea of red t-shirts with slogans proclaiming “I Stand with Rand” and a noticeably larger number of college aged people.
The speech touched on a range of issues such as government surveillance of American citizens, the Fourth Amendment, executive overreach, and wrongful imprisonment. The overarching theme was that, as Paul said it, “We won’t trade our liberty for security. Not now, not ever.”
As Paul concluded his speech he reminded the audience of his popular filibuster to which he received yet another standing ovation. Before he left the stage, he said “It’s a time for boldness and action. The time is now. Stand with me, stand together for liberty,” ..and stand they did.
