Flexibility,Obama Style by Chris Ivan

President Obama gets tough with Putin and his laws banning gay propaganda by sending two openly gay delegates to the Olympics. Billie Jean King and hockey player Caitlin Cahow have been chosen to be the ‘in your face’ messengers. Mr Obama himself will not be attending due to a ‘scheduling conflict’. That’s code for boycott. How noble of the President to stand up for this Human rights injustice.

Obama-and-Putin-by-flagsMeanwhile in the rest of the freedom hating world, Christians are being sent to slaughter in Pakistan, Nigeria,Egypt, and more. A staggering 100,000 killed yearly! Will Obama send a delegation? Doubtful. Perhaps the President will send former slaves as delegates to India, Haiti, Laos, Pakistan, Western Sahara, Ivory Coast, Tajikistan, or even Namibia? I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. There are at least 30 million slaves throughout the world. Maybe an all female delegation to all the countries of the world that still treat women as second class citizens (or less)? Don’t hold your breath.

Don’t get me wrong, I do think Putin’s policy towards gays is idiotic. But for the President to act out of spite is equally as idiotic. Obama is using the old democratic playbook to label Putin as a hater and embarrass him. But with these two leaders of the world with egos as vast as the universe, this could get really stupid.

Just this week we have learned Putin is ordering major upgrades to Russia’s military. They are going to reopen and rehab old Soviet era bases, rebuild its arctic presence, and replace its old ICBMs with new long-range missiles. Interesting news considering the United States is supposed to be in an arms reduction agreement with Russia. We also learned Russia has deployed Iskander missiles with a range of hundreds of miles in its Baltic Sea Enclave of Kalingrad, that borders NATO members Poland and Lithuania. As Poland and other nations wait for the installation of the interceptor shield that the United States promised to put in place starting by 2018, the President is waffling and some wonder if it will even happen.

But these are really big issues for a small petty President who reaches for the lowest hanging fruit. Let the games begin!
