Back in January, former campaign manager for 2012 GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Katie Packer launched a SuperPAC to take down Donald Trump. That organization is called Our Principles PAC.
So what’s the thought process — force legions of loyal voters to turn to ‘establishment-approved’ candidates instead of The Donald, because wealthy crony donors are afraid of losing their access to endless Federal cash? Instead, those legions of loyal voters, who have loudly demonstrated they don’t want to have anything to do with establishment candidates, will either not vote at all or will vote for a Democrat (since voting for a Democrat is no different from voting for an establishment RepubliCrat).
It seems Our Principles PAC was very influential in Wisconsin going after Trump and giving Sen. Ted Cruz a huge win. Romney’s people are working on behalf of Cruz, doesn’t anyone see what’s happening?
From the Washington Post:
GOP voters in Wisconsin rejected Donald Trump just like the entire Republican base will do in Cleveland this summer. The Republican presidential nomination process now moves to an open convention, and OPP will wage an aggressive fight for every delegate vote in the coming weeks to ensure the GOP wins the White House this fall with a principled, conservative standard bearer.”
OPP activities in Wisconsin:
** $2 million spent on broadcast and cable TV advertising statewide with issue specific television ads run in individual markets
** Radio ads
** Billboard advertising
** Digital advertising
** Millions of emails sent to Wisconsin voters
** Over 1,000,000 voter contacts in Wisconsin, including 383,000 pieces of mail and nearly 262,000 Trump voter guides.
** Experienced field staff making calls or engaging in direct interaction with convention attendees advocating for a slate of “not-Trump” delegates
Moving forward, Our Principles PAC is organizing delegates and deploying a number of tactics with a goal of depriving Trump of as many delegates as possible in upcoming contests. OPP will focus on delegate wins, not individual state wins.
In addition, OPP will focus on states/districts electing unbound delegates to ensure those delegates are not supporting Trump on a first ballot and tracking candidates running for delegate in upcoming conventions to ensure that even if delegates are bound to Trump on early ballots, they move away on subsequent ballots.
This shows the delusional wishful thinking going on in the GOP. Trump will have won by far the most votes and delegates in the primaries. The base will not joyfully ditch Trump. Instead, the base may revolt or near half of the base revolt. Another third will revolt if Cruz is passed over. Leaving maybe 20% of the base happy with the result. It’s already a wipeout.
But be careful what you wish for.., as your paper says; “Cruz’s favorable rating (35 percent), meanwhile, is 11 points lower than Clinton’s (46 percent). He is not a popular guy.”
