The current VA situation is a critical harsh reality that must be addressed swiftly.
The Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, is a great location for Iowa and Nebraska’s veterans to receive the much needed care they deserve. On Livewell Nebraska, this critical issue is making headlines, and the attention has the potential to help tens of thousands of veterans in the Iowa and Nebraska communities.
Rep. Lee Terry (NE) sat down with the new Secretary of Department of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald on Tuesday to discuss the options. To build a new VA hospital would cost $560 Million dollars. An Omaha engineering firm has given a estimate of $350 Million dollars to renovate The Creighton Medical Center. “So an option of — instead of $500 million or $600 million — could be a $200 million option,” Terry said.
The Creighton Medical Center is a 795,000 square foot facility, which is scheduled to close in 2017. The Creighton Medical Center is a prime location, and is a great option for a desperate need.
“This is the desperate nature of this hospital,” Terry said. “The degraded nature of this infrastructure should make this a priority project.”
This is a win-win situation for the veterans, The Creighton Medical Center, the VA, and the American taxpayer.
