A friend of mine on Facebook just decided to back Donald Trump after supporting and defending Sen. Ted Cruz for months. The decision didn’t come lightly. He thought long and hard about it but in the end, protecting America from the liberal agenda was more important. But his decision was met with rejection from the friends he thought he had.
I’ve been there and even though I didn’t call out my friends or make public examples of them, I have experienced that many times over, all because I thought of my country first and weighed my decisions based on the information I had on hand. I do not regret my decision; I do regret some of my “friends” however. Please read David Weissman’s response.
From Weissman’s Facebook:
Ok I just be blunt with this. I have made a very difficult decision regarding American elections. Yes I have friended many wonderful people while campaigning for Ted Cruz.
I know I have said I will never vote for Trump many times and even wrote an article about it. I have thought this through long and hard even prayed about it. Figuring out what is best for American and Israel. Security has always been number one issue for me and my family here in Israel as well as family back in America.
I know candidates now doesn’t necessarily match my principles that is fine. Candidate I’m endorsing is far from perfect and has made choices and comments very wrong many times but who hasn’t. I feel he does have a better plan than the wicked witch of the left.
So with that being said. I hope I don’t lose any friendships over this but as of now while Ted Cruz is out of the race I will be endorsing and campaigning Donald Trump for president.
I will continue to support Ted Cruz and if there is a pathway for victory for Cruz my vote will go to him. But if it indeed comes down to Trump vs Clinton inspired by my family security is my number one issue my principle which I vote primarily on it will go to Trump. I will support both men hoping to unify our party so we will not repeat an Obama election we all need each other more than ever to win this.
After David had written this on his Facebook timeline, he experienced hate responses, friends who blocked and unfriended him. It shocked him that he responded with these statements:
Oh I know I’m seeing a dark side of Cruz supporters I thought never existed.
Funny how many people don’t even read my whole statement to where I am still continuing to support Cruz as well. And leaving friendships over who you pick well very communistic and this is why America is the way it is.
It’s funny I get attacked by Cruz supporters regarding this endorsement but where were you all when I was getting attacked by Trump supporters defending Cruz.
I’m noticing that now just been blocked by one who never comments on my post until now smhl
Here are a few back and forths:
I know David as he is a good man. I value our dialogue, and we haven’t had arguments since the election began. I valued his judgment and didn’t defriend him or block him when he remained a Cruz supporter. I still have Cruz friends, and we talk on a regular basis, but the hate that I’ve seen is nothing I would wish on anyone. If you can, support him on Facebook with a follow.
