The US defends Turkey from Russia, wouldn’t that be the ultimate irony? As Turkey drifts more, and more, to an Islamic theocracy – and probably helping ISIS, directly, or indirectly – we defend them from Russia.
Turkey is (regrettably) a member of NATO. We should not have let it in, but we did. If we now back down on our commitments under the NATO treaty there will be no NATO. Poland and the Baltic States will be next, and all of Europe would be at risk. You will see the marginal states begin to move into Putin’s sphere of influence.
It is incredible how badly Obama has performed. Our allies don’t trust us and our enemies don’t fear us.
“It’s important for us to be very clear that we will respond and defend Turkey if they come under assault from the Russians. Otherwise the entire NATO alliance comes into question,” Rubio, who is running for president, said on Fox News.
“If Russia believes that they can respond and retaliate against Turkey because NATO is not going to do anything about it, what they are basically doing is making the argument that NATO is no longer viable, that it is a feckless alliance.”

What is your analysis? Would you support Turkey on their shooting down of Russian plane or support Vladimir Putin defending his country against more incidents like that?
