As Islamic terror attacks continue to unfold in France, it would be wise for us to take stock of the big picture. We know that Islamic radicals are planning and executing terror attacks against the West, and MI5 officials have warned that large, bloody attacks are imminent. We also know that our porous borders make it a simple matter for jihadists to enter the country with weapons and explosives. In addition to those crossing our borders, we know there are people already here who have been radicalized and are willing to carry out attacks as well.
The Fort Hood shootings in 2009 demonstrated the fact that radical jihadists have infiltrated our own military where they have been trained in military tactics which can then be used to carry out terrorist attacks. Those same members of the military can also train others in those tactics right here in America in an effort to build a larger Islamic fighting force. According to some reports there may be as many as 35 sites in the United States that are suspected terrorist training camps.
Obviously the threat of terrorist attacks is growing, and there is no doubt that attacks can happen here in America at any time. The large scale attacks that occurred here on 9/11 have not been able to be repeated, but terrorist organizations have shown an ability to adapt their tactics to circumvent our anti-terrorism efforts. Without a doubt multiple, coordinated, simultaneous attacks in cities across the United States would have the same chilling effect on America as that experienced on 9/11.
Now, with all of this in mind, consider the fact that Bloomberg News recently suggested that the Charlie Hebdo attack shows that we need tougher gun control laws in America.
Think about that for a moment; do you believe this is really the time to disarm law abiding American citizens, or do you believe this would be a really good time to buy a little more ammunition and spend some time on the range? The gun control laws in France are much tougher than those in most of the United States, and given the situation in that country I honestly believe France would benefit from a healthy dose of concealed carry.
Only law abiding people pay attention to gun control laws. Last time I checked, it is already illegal in Paris to walk into newspaper offices and shoot people, yet these terrorists were not particularly concerned about the legality of their actions. It is pretty clear they were not overly concerned with the fact that the weapons they used to carry out those killings were banned. Does anyone believe jihadists operating here in America would be even slightly deterred by tougher gun laws here?
