The Russian government has gone to great lengths to steer clear of any mention of their horrific history during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. No surprise. But when an American broadcasting company does the same in their own reporting, something just isn’t right.
NBC has exclusively covered the Sochi Olympics and during a lead segment on its Friday broadcast of the opening ceremonies, they glorified the Marxist-Leninist totalitarian state’s legacy. Narrated by Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the network’s description of Russia was shocking to say the least:
“Russia overwhelms. Russia mystifies. Russia transcends. Through every stage of its story, it’s resisted any notion of limitation. Through every re-invention, only redoubling its desire to cast a towering presence. The empire that ascended to affirm a colossal footprint; the revolution that birthed one of modern history’s pivotal experiments.”
It goes on and MRCTV has the video:
Just as the narrator references “one of modern history’s pivotal experiments,” an image of the hammer and sickle (a sign of Russian communism) is shown.
It is unbelievable that an American news company could put a smiley face on Russia’s ‘pivotal experiment.’ The same experiment that un-apologetically murdered millions. And it’s not like this is new news! The North Koreans are experiencing it. The Chinese tried it and found out they needed the money of capitalism but still can’t manage without the occasional political purge and inquisition to keep the populace in line. Putin is just a new version of Stalin without the NKVD being so blatant.
Buck Sexton covered this topic extensively on his Saturday radio program. He discussed how the media is quick to mock Russia on certain things yet fail to see the correlation between their history, what is going on there now and what is happening to America.
“And of course, journalists from around the world and those in the chattering class – they point, they laugh, they mock, the criticize – as they well should, but what I figured this week, what came to my mind were some uncomfortable moments when I thought about what we’re seeing over there and what we somehow fail to see happening over here. Or at least, those same journalists, those same intrepid reporters are very quick to point out just how over-reaching and ridiculous and statist Vladimir Putin’s Russia is. And this Olympics is just highlighting all of that. They don’t see as much of president Obama’s actions in that same light, in that same vein.”
How can they be so blind? Is it by choice?
