No signs of Arson at Flight 93 National Memorial, but no further info given

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. – On Friday, a major fire broke out at the Flight 93 National Memorial, as reported at the Brenner Brief. There has been much speculation about the blaze that engulfed three buildings, and destroyed the flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol on September 11, 2001. Also lost, according to a report at CNN, were “a handful of personal items of passengers and crew recovered from the crash site and from families, copies of DVDs of the annual commemoration ceremonies and meetings of the memorial’s federal advisory commission, and about 100 ‘tribute items’ to the passengers and crew left by visitors since 2001.”

The actual memorial and the visitors center are located about two miles away from the damaged buildings, which house administrative offices and a conference center. Although staff members and volunteers were working in the buildings at the time, they “successfully evacuated without injury or incident,” according to Mike Litterst, Public Affairs Specialist for the National Park Service as reported at a local news source.

Another local source, WPXI, reported on Sunday that an “on-site investigation has found no indication of arson or foul play…” but gave precious few further details, only adding that “the National Park Service and Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday that the investigation is ongoing.”

Conservative pundit Pat Dollard is skeptical, headlining his article on the revelation with “Yeah..Sure: Investigators Claim There’s No Signs Of Foul Play Seen In 9/11 Memorial Fire.” Litterst said, “Definitive findings, including the cause of the fire, are not expected for a matter of weeks.”
