Obama approval ratings way down among Hispanics

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that President Obama’s approval ratings have slipped to a new low of just 41%. You’re probably wondering, how on earth does this guy stay above 40%? There can’t be that many people who approve of what Obama is doing. That was my initial reaction. But once I thought a little deeper and considered the socioeconomic makeup of the country, the number of people who are dependent on government in some way, and the number of party loyalist drones who will agree with anything Obama says or does, the picture becomes a little more clear.

What is even more interesting to me about this poll, however, is that the president’s support among Hispanics has gone down a considerable amount to just 44% (versus 67%  January of 2013.) Think about it: the decline among Hispanics is happening at a time when there is extreme turmoil at the U.S. and Mexico border.

Could it be that Hispanics generally don’t like the way the Obama administration is handling the situation at the border? Or that the way this administration has approached the issue of immigration has not been received as positively as the media or the Democrats have insisted? Maybe their dwindling support has more to do with the state of the economy or disapproval with the countless scandals coming out of the White House.

Whatever the reason(s) may be, if they strike while the iron is hot, I believe the Republicans could have a unique opportunity to make their case to Hispanics in 2014.
