On to November! Tim Scott Wins South Carolina Primary for U.S. Senate

With all of the excitement tonight over Dave Brat defeating Eric Cantor in Virginia’s district 7 House primary, less attention has been paid to some other important yet, more predictable races. Tonight was a great night in South Carolina for U.S. senator Tim Scott who easily won the Republican primary. Scott pulled in a whopping 90 percent of the vote over challenger Randall Young and is poised to win in November.

While this might not seem like big news, it has the potential to be because if Scott wins the general election this fall, it would make him the state’s first ever elected black senator. Key word, elected. While Scott is a current sitting senator, he was appointed by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to replace Jim DeMint, who resigned from the Senate in order to run the Heritage Foundation.

Scott has been serving since 2013 and has been extremely popular within the Republican party, not only in his home state, but across the country.
