Parents: Talking To Your Kids About Sex? Don’t Bother, Your Kid Just Joined ISIS

Who Knew A Broken iPod Was Enough To Cause A Terrorist To Repent and Seek The Comforts of Home!

Dear Parents of generation whatever letter we are currently up to, it may be time for “the talk” with your social media savvy children.

Not “THE” talk, rather the “while going to fight with ISIS might seem like a great idea now, turns out traitorous actions have consequences” talk.

In the article ISIS Teen Crisis:   Jihadist Recruitment of American Kids, cites a CIA report estimating “2,000 Westerners…have joined fighting in Iraq and Syria, with at least 500 from the UK, and more than 700 from France.”

With its social media savvy, ISIS in particular, has successfully recruited  many Westerners by making terrorism seem glamorous. However, according to the UK Telegraph, a series of letters  written by French Jihadists to their parents tell another story.  The letters “seen by Le Figaro newspaper, reflect the “misery, boredom and fear suffered by Islamist recruits as the gloss fades from their big adventure.”

The letters ask for advice on how to return to France, and include complaints about various levels of hardships faced by repentant jihadists, such as:

“I’ve basically done nothing except hand out clothes and food.”

“Winter’s arrived here. It’s begun to get really hard.”

“I’m fed up. They make me do the washing up.”

“I’m fed up. My iPod doesn’t work any more here. I have to come back.”

“They want to send me to the front, but I don’t know how to fight.”

Gasp!  Terrorism is hard work!

Although your first reaction may be to laugh at how little the freedom fighters were able to endure, keep in mind prior to joining the fight, the greatest hardship they faced was an American butchering the French language.

Regardless, we should not waste the opportunity to share with our children the hardships faced by the French “repentant terrorists.”

The fact is, most kids born in the past two decades haven’t had to sacrifice much more than an iPad for an iPad mini.

As parents, it is time for “the terrorist talk.”  Face it our kids would never make it as make it as jihadists.  What may seem bright and shiny initially can lose its shine very quickly, especially when you can’t find an outlet to charge your smart phone.
