Parkrose School System Segregation; Calls for African American Parents Night

What to make of this? How many of you are tired of racism at any level. This is ridiculous to even imagine a school separating parents night by color. What the hell for??
A local school district says it’s a night for African American Parents to ask questions and be informed about their child’s education. But one guest speaker is there for something completely different.
The Parkrose School District Website bills the March 20th meeting as African American Parent Night and says if you are an African American parent or have an African American student, you are invited to attend an evening with the Superintendent. But it wont be just the Superintendent there. A representative of Cover Oregon will also be making a 45 minute presentation during the 1 1/2 hour meeting. The superintendent’s office told KXL everyone is welcome when we asked if “white” parents can come to the meeting. We then contacted Superintendent Doctor Karen Gray by e-mail to ask more in-depth questions, she replied by e-mail saying “you should attend the meeting”.
When the hell is White Parents Night? A few weeks ago a Catholic school was demonized by the media for serving fried chicken and watermelon during Black History Month. Where are those same voices now?
Racism is Racism no matter what the color is. This is segregation at it’s highest form and shouldn’t be tolerated!
Some of the comments on this event include the following
Arent We ALL supposed to be American? This is half the problem with this Country,People being divided by race. When They Immigrated here “legally” did they not agree to abide by our laws and culture? Also they had to learn the language and the Pledge of Allegiance. What has changed?Whatever happened to United We Stand, Divided We Fall? And if is the way You are going to handle things then where “is” the White Parent night?
it is my sincere wish and thought that EVERY parent pull their kid out of this and every school and home school their kids. parents can teach their kids about discrimination a lot better than you folks can. you should be ashamed of yourselves for promoting racism and discrimination.
This needs to stop. What an outrage to see what has become of my country and events like this that discriminate are allowed to take place in schools. Shame on you!!
This story is stirring up a lot of talk on the KXL Facebook page. So what do you think? Is this type of meeting the school district should be having? Sign on and give us your opinion.
