Pentecostal Pastor Arrested, Serving Sentence; Charged with Unlawful Sound Amplication

The church has been there for twenty-five years and new neighbors are offended by the church’s tradition? When you move into the neighborhood you either accept the neighborhood’s aura or you move. Let me guess “urban pioneers” right?

A judge issued the penalty against Pastor Apostle Johnnie Clark, Thursday, following his three-day trial on charges of unlawful sound amplification.

Clark leads the Rehoboth United Assemblies Church on Laurel Street in Columbia. The church has been at its current location for over 30 years.

However, two town homes were built beside the church in recent years. Beginning in October of 2012, neighbors began complaining about the noise coming from the church during services, which they said could be heard loudly inside their homes. On multiple occasions, police were called to the scene.

In an interview with News19 nearly two years ago, Clark explained, “I am sorry we don’t worship the Lord quietly and that is everyone’s preference how you worship the Lord. We just happen to be a Pentecostal apostolic church and our praise is very vocal to the Lord.”

In December of 2012, a Columbia court found the church in violation of city noise ordinances and fined them.

Clark has already begun serving his sentence. A parishioner at the church says the house of worship has begun holding services in the basement to avoid disturbing neighbors.
