Rice had been under fire from Republicans for making comments on the Sunday morning talk-show circuit concerning the role an anti-Muslim YouTube video played in the death of four Americans at a US Consulate in Benghazi, and the cries were exacerbated when rumors of her potential Secretary of State nomination arose.
“What happened in Benghazi was in fact initially a spontaneous reaction to what had just transpired hours before in Cairo, almost a copycat of the demonstrations against our facility in Cairo, which were prompted, of course, by the video,” Rice said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” five days after the attack.
Honestly, this is a great play by her to save some face for both sides. It would have been absurd if Obama had attempted to nominate her. He would have knowingly walked into a gridlocked process with his intentions appearing to be nothing short of slapping Republicans in the face. Secretary of State Cliff avoided …now onto the next one.
