“I believe the American people deserve a chief law enforcement officer who will be independent of political influence, accountable to the law, and transparent with his dealings to the Congress,” the San Antonio Republican declared. “Unfortunately, Eric Holder has failed on all of these counts.”
Cornyn accused Holder of putting a political agenda ahead of the law, saying, “I can see that the Attorney General has a tough job. He is a member of Obama’s Cabinet and chief law enforcement officer of the country. He can’t be confused about those two roles. … Reasonable people will wonder, where does Attorney General Holder’s loyalty lie?”
Cornyn cited the ongoing Fast and Furious controversy and accused Holder of stonewalling the investigation. “I have no idea what else Holder and his department are concealing from the American people,” he said.
Cornyn also complained about what he called a lack of accountability in the department.

I have to ask, if no one has been held accountable, what does it take to get fired at the Holder Justice Department?”
The senator went on to blast Holder for his opposition to voter ID laws, another addition to what he called the Attorney General’s “litany of failure.”
