Sep 24, 1957: Eisenhower sent 101st Airborne to Protect Nine Black Students in Arkansas | Democrats crickets!!

On this day in history, September 24, 1957, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower ordered the 101st Airborne to protect nine black students as they entered Little Rock High School in Arkansas.

Arkansas Democrat Governor Orval Faubus sent the National Guard to stop the black students. He claimed that it was necessary to protect the peace. President Eisenhower also took control of the Arkansas National Guard from Governor Faubus.

Also of Note: Eisenhower and Vice President Nixon supported the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Senators John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson voted against.
