SHAMEFUL! Salon Writer Bashes Troops And Military In New Article

The liberal news source Salon has a new article titled “You Don’t Protect My Freedom: Our Childish Insistence On Calling Soldiers Heroes Deadens Real Democracy” by David Masciotra. First of all, the title itself is offensive. We should ask Mr. Masciotra if the men and women of our military don’t protect our freedoms, then who does? Plus, it never gets old having to remind these folks that we’re a constitutional republic, not a democracy.

In his first sentence, it reads, “Put a man in uniform, preferably a white man, give him a gun, and Americans will worship him.” Now why does he have to inject race into this? Is he saying Americans generally don’t praise our troops who aren’t white? So far, the author doesn’t know the difference between a republic and a democracy, along with injecting race into the article.

He includes the events in Ferguson, Missouri as well. “Michael Brown’s murder represents the tip of a body pile, and in just the past month, several videos have emerged of police assaulting people, including pregnant women, for reasons justifiable only to the insane.” The author along with the rest of the mainstream media is already calling Darren Wilson a murderer, even though most of the evidence seems to support Wilson’s series events, along with the fact that no trial has taken place yet. Yes, its true that there are some bad cops, bad troops, bad teachers and so on, but wait for all the evidence and trial to take place before calling someone a murderer.

To sound compassionate, Masciotra says, “No rational person can blame the soldier, the Marine, the airman, or the Navy man for the stupid and destructive foreign policy of the U.S. government.” However, he says that the last war the troops fought for freedom was World War II. So what would that make troops from the Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Gulf, and Iraq Wars? Would they be considered just a waste of time to Masciotra?

Overall, the author seemed to smear the troops and military overall in an obnoxious way. If he wants to criticize a war, maybe he should criticize the presidents who led us to these wars, not the troops since they’re only doing the job commanded to them.
