SHOCK! Married Couple in Brazil Find Out They Are Brother And Sister

A Brazilian married couple have discovered they were brother and sister after the woman went searching for her long-lost mother.

Adriana, 39, and her husband of seven years, Leandro, 37, have a 6-year-old daughter together, the Daily Mail reports.

The couple, whose last names have been withheld, spent their lives looking for their respective mothers; both called Maria, who had given them up when they were still babies.

Adriana, who hadn’t seen her mother since she was just one year old, sought to track down her mother by asking a local radio station for help.

Originally from Brazil’s southeast state of Sao Paulo, truck driver Leandro discovered at age 8 that the woman he knew as his mother was actually his stepmother.

Leandro stayed in his hometown while Adriana moved away to work as a housemaid and was married for 15 years and had three children.

After a failed marriage, Adriana moved back to Sao Paulo and met Leandro for the first time 10 years ago.

But when Adriana was reunited with her mother live on air at the end of the interview on Radio Globo’s “The Time Is Now” program, which specializes in finding lost relatives, Maria revealed that she also had a son named Leandro who didn’t know her.

It becomes clear that it is the same Leandro that was married to Adriana, who is heard in the live recording sobbing.

“I don’t believe that you’re telling me this,” she says. “Leandro is my husband.”

At the end of the interview she says: “Now I’m scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn’t want me any more. I love him so much.”

On Tuesday Adriana and Leandro, who never married legally, told the radio station that they would stay together despite the news.

“At first we were really knocked by it all,” Adriana said. “But we had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think. We have so many plans together, nothing’s going to break us up, nothing.”

The couple said they don’t blame their mother for abandoning them as children, and have kept in touch with her.

The Daily Mail also reported, citing the British Medical Journal, that half of those separated from relatives at a young age experience strong sexual feelings when they are reunited.

Psychiatrists believe the natural repulsion siblings feel toward each other as children acts as an inhibitor to incest. But brothers and sisters who miss out on this time can develop powerful, obsessive feelings for their sibling when they become adults.
