Ted Cruz’s Endorsement of Doug Ducey Should Raise Questions for Arizona Conservatives
Ducey’s Political Director bashes Cruz and Michelle Malkin. Does Ducey receive Common Core kickbacks?
Arizona State Treasurer Doug Ducey, conservative candidate for governor and former CEO of Cold Stone Creamery, announced Wednesday that U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, endorsed his candidacy for governor.
The crisis at America’s border is a defining issue in the coming election, especially in Arizona. I’m supporting Doug Ducey for Arizona governor because he is the best candidate to help secure the border, protect the people, and enforce the law. He has the most serious and credible plan to address the border crisis.
As the CEO of a successful Arizona business, Doug also knows how jobs are created, and he’ll be a champion of opportunity and growth across the state. In a crowded primary field, he stands out as a consistent voice for limited government, individual liberty, and respect for the Constitution. If Republicans in Congress are going to prevail against the lawless overreach of President Obama, we need courageous and capable allies like Doug Ducey in the states. I urge all Arizonans to give Doug your vote.
The Cruz endorsement marks support for Ducey from a leading conservative voice in the Senate. His endorsement is now added to that of Senator Mike Lee of Utah. Ducey’s campaign is also endorsed by two key conservative governors – Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Mike Pence of Indiana.
The people that run political campaigns say something about the candidates themselves. Ducey’s Political Director, Anson Clarkson, has a history of bashing conservatives.
For example, he labels those opposed to illegal immigration as “closet racists”.
Anson Clarkson isn’t the guy handling social media, putting up signs or making calls. He is an integral part of the campaign as Political Director. Does Ducey share his vision and will he work to implement it in Arizona?
As you can gather from his tweets below, Clarkson thinks that Michelle Malkin and Ted Cruz spew hateful rhetoric. His career defining moment was working with Arizona’s leading liberal and race-baiter Randy Parraz to take down Republican Senate President Russell Pearce and replace him with the “liberal” Republican Jerry Lewis.
If that doesn’t make Arizona conservatives scratch their head, maybe Ducey’s ties to Common Core will.
First some background.
Achieve is a non-profit in D.C. that partnered with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association (NGA) on the creation, writing and review, development and implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
Dr. Craig Barrett, former Intel CEO, is the Chairman of the Board at Achieve. He is an advocate for Common Core and, along with his wife Barbara, they donated considerable amounts of money to Doug Ducey’s campaign for Arizona State Treasurer.

If illegal immigration, Common Core or social conservative issues are important to Arizona voters, they may want to rethink a vote for Ducey.
After carefully examining the record and background of the candidates, Andrew Thomas is the only true, non-establishment conservative in the race.
Contrast Thomas with the other candidates by enlarging the infographic below.

No one can deny that Ducey is a slick, manipulative politician. He has gone to these conservatives and sold them a "bill of good", claiming to be THE conservative candidate running against a liberal, Scott Smith. He doesn't tell them that Smith isn't even a contender....that he's REALLY running against someone far more conservative than he is, Christine Jones.
He doesn't tell them that the POLITCAL DIRECTOR that he hired comes from an organization dedicated to unseating anyone who isn't for open borders and who tries to make it difficult for illegal aliens.
Of course he never mentions that his business basically failed and left the taxpayers holding the bag for millions in defaulted loans.
It's just a shame that the REAL conservatives who endorsed Ducey failed to vet him. They let themselves be chumped.
We need to swamp these conservatives with emails, faxes, tweets, and Facebook posts asking them to PLEASE withdraw their endorsements of Ducey before it's too late and they have inadvertently helped a RINO to be elected governor of Arizona.
Attach this article to any correspondence. There are additional article you can attach, too, Just Google "Doug Ducey Randy Parraz."
Sarah Palin endorsed Ducey today. Trent Franks and Mike Lee endorsed Ducey. These are usually "my people" and I'm not agreeing with them. Well, we'll see.
Jan Brewer endorsed Scott Smith. He's pro-Common Core.
An addendum to my previous post: Sheriff Joe endorsed Doug Ducey. (Because Ducey's father was/is a cop?)
I remember, however, that Sheriff Joe also endorsed Janet Napolitano and we saw how that worked out.
This endorsement, along with several others, are a case of "follow the dark money trail". I'll leave it at that for now.
I will say it's a shame that today in Arizona, a candidate who is friendly with common core $$ and open border crowd can pass as a conservative.
Ducey is a - excuse the worn out phrase - RINO. Anyone Hugh Hewitt endorses is a warning to me to investigate.
Ducey will say anything to get Conservative's attention - and vote. We see how that works with McCain and Flake.
I will NOT vote for him in the Primary. I'll bet, however, he wins it - but as I never vote for John McCain or Jeff Flake - I'll do the same with this imposter.
As far as whom to vote for in the Primary - I don't know yet. I can't fathom why Ted Cruz endorsed Ducey.
You have to wonder if they really know about people they are endorsing that they hardly or don't even know. There is worse than ducey running for governor but this also some who are better. Can't understand why Cruz would endorse him.
Thank you for this. I wholeheartedly agree about flooding phones & social media about
the Ducey endorsements.
The TV and radio ads about sticking taxpayers with bill for failed franchise(loans) fell on deaf ears. People have made their decision based on endorsements, like you said, intelligent people are refusing to properly vet him.
@AZ Conservative Ducey is sly and manipulative. He scammed these REAL conservatives into endorsing him. They clearly failed to vet him.
@AZ Conservative People aren't aware that Arpaio was a lifelong liberal Democrat. He only reregistered as a Republican in 1994 to run for sheriff in Maricopa county because Maricopa County was predominately Republican.
@AZ Conservative We certainly would have been much better off with Salmon as our Governor instead of her. I saw that ad with Joe endorsing Ducey, not surprising with his father being a cop. Ducey is certainly far from a conservative, I also haven't decided who I'm voting in the primary either.
@AZ Conservative I forgot Joe endorsed her.
As for Ted Cruz, I'm willing bet he knows next to nothing about Ducey.
@AZ Conservative My son and I worked very hard to get Jeff Flake elected. We manned the phones, put up signs, and knocked on doors. He got in and immediately BETRAYED us!
If Flake runs again. I will work for the Democrat if I have to to see Flake defeated.
There's a concerted effort to tamp down the more conservative politicians by the "moderates" lol in the GOP. They work harder at that than they do fighting the Democrats. I thought Ted Cruz might be an interesting person, but this Ducey thing and connecting up with Glenn Beck giving toys away to kids from Central America at the border means he goes off the rails - both immigration-related situations. Hmmmm
I was surprisingly right about Jeff Flake. I watched him as a Congressman under GWBush and Flake was Bush's lapdog for amnesty for illegals. I disliked him then - and I dislike him even more now because of his loyalty to John McCain. He doesn't seem to have an original thought. I'm proud to say I never ever voted for Jeff Flake. Same goes for that unstable John McCain. I didn't vote Democrat. I just didn't vote for the office. Jeff Flake and his Obama smile are sickening....same treachery going on behind it.
The only time I voted for McCain was when he ran with Palin against Obama (if you want to call that a run......).
