The High Cost of A Failed Presidency

When Rush Limbaugh famously said that he hoped Obama failed, this wasn’t what he meant. Rush hoped, as did I, that Obama would fail to enact the policies he campaigned on because, as we both correctly understood, these policies would be harmful to America and to the rest of the world. What Rush did not mean was that he hoped Obama would fail to lead, to protect the country, and to keep the United States and our allies safe from those who would do us harm. Unfortunately Obama has succeeded in putting into place most of the policies he campaigned on, but he has failed as a leader, and the cost of that failure is high.

Ferguson Missouri is a prime example of what I am talking about. When the Michael Brown shooting first happened the Obama administration seized the political opportunity rather than to demonstrate leadership. By sending in the clowns, namely Al Sharpton and Eric Holder, Obama sent a clear message that he wanted to use this situation to stoke racial tensions in the country for purely political reasons. Everything that has happened as a result, including the shootings of police officers in New York, Ferguson, and other locations, are the result of Obama’s failed leadership.

The lingering malaise in our economy is another example of Obama’s failed leadership. Conservatives all over the country warned of the consequences of Obama’s economic policies and of enacting Obamacare, and we have been proven right and then some. Rather than acknowledging the problems caused by his actions the Obama administration has fudged the numbers to give a false impression of an economic recovery, but fudged numbers do not equate to food on the table and Americans are suffering. Incomes are down, the number of people in the workforce is down and opportunities are lacking because Obama has failed to be a leader on the economy.

Failed leadership has also become evident in the Middle East. Two long, hard fought wars were coming to a close when Obama took office. It was clear that Americans wanted to bring our troops home, and once again Obama seized on that desire as an opportunity to score politically rather than to lead. Instead of establishing conditions upon which the troops would be withdrawn, Obama simply used a calendar. The result was predictable, and in fact was predicted. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost and the entire region is coming apart at the seams due to a clear lack of leadership on the part of Barack Obama.

Our allies around the world are suffering and are in real danger because Obama has failed as a world leader. Crimea is in Russian hands now and Ukraine is at risk because our foes see America’s weakness rather than our strength. Obama’s apparent willingness to capitulate to Iran will further destabilize the Middle East and put Israel in grave danger of a nuclear attack. Even Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries are echoing this fear. Nothing Obama has done or appears to be trying to do has resulted in a single positive development anywhere in the world, and he has shown no interest in even acknowledging that fact let alone reversing the path he is on. Obama’s failed leadership has made the world a much more dangerous place.

There are sadly many, many more examples of the harm caused by the failure of Barack Obama to be the leader he was elected to be, and frankly no examples of anything his leadership has accomplished.

My point in providing these examples however is not to simply tell people what they already know, it is to make the larger point that as we consider who we will elect to fill the office when Obama finally goes home, we have to understand the grave consequences of the decision we will make. Obama’s failure as President is also our failure to choose a President.

It is we who are tasked with choosing the person who will either be the leader of the free world, or who will once again fail to rise to the occasion. Frivolously choosing that person based on race, sex, physical attractiveness, or any other such irrelevant standard means that we too are failing in our leadership role. Americans can ill afford to take this responsibility lightly because lives all over the world depend on the choice we will make. We can never again afford the luxury of being ignorant of the issues that the world faces, nor of the consequences of the decisions we make.

We have been blessed with the privilege of living in the greatest nation on Earth and with all of the freedoms and opportunities that come as a result, but with that privilege comes a profound responsibility. The first Presidential primary is less than a year away, now is the time to study the issues, listen to the candidates, and make the very best decision you can make.
