Over the past couple of weeks a number of stories have been in the news surrounding the nuclear talks with Iran – Netanyahu’s address to Congress, his subsequent election victory and Obama’s petulant response, and the letter from GOP Senators to Iran. Although those of us who pay attention to these types of things have been fairly angry with the administration, and excited by Netanyahu’s come-from-behind election victory, it would be safe to say that the bulk of Americans are relatively oblivious to most of what is going on, and what they do know they most likely don’t understand. Unfortunately, the current set of circumstances may very well set off a chain of events that will have grave consequences for the entire world.
Without getting Biblical in my warning, just be aware that the people Barack Obama wants to allow to have nuclear weapons could not pass the kind of background check you or I would be subjected to if we wanted to buy a .22 pistol to shoot paper targets.
Some Christians have suggested that we are seeing end-times prophecies being fulfilled, but even if you aren’t a Christian you should be aware it has been reported that the Ayatollahs in Iran do see themselves as being the instruments by which their own end-times prophecies are to be fulfilled, and that does not bode well for the rest of world. According to some scholars the Mahdi, or the 12th Imam, will return as the Islamic messiah only after Israel has been destroyed.
It is no secret that Iran has vowed to wipe Israel off the map, a task which would be much easier to accomplish with nuclear weapons. Some have suggested they would never use those weapons against Israel due to the close proximity of the two countries, but that kind of logic goes out the window when we’re talking about a culture and religion that glorifies suicide as a path to Heaven.
Benjamin Netanyahu is very well aware of the religious beliefs of those who have vowed to destroy his country, and seems to take those threats very seriously even if our own President does not. Barack Obama is either incredibly naïve in his belief that the UN could pressure Israel into accepting his long anticipated deal with Iran, or his hatred for Israel is just as intense as that of the Ayatollahs’.
In either case, Netanyahu will be forced to act in defense of Israel with or without the help of the United States. When that happens, if the United States is seen as doing anything less than standing solidly behind Israel, the Middle East will undoubtedly erupt in a war unlike we have ever seen. With Arab nations seeing a nuclear Iran as being as big a threat to themselves as it is to Israel, the conflict could very likely see alliances form between Israel and countries that have long been her sworn enemies.
Whether he realizes it or not, Obama is playing with fire in his negotiations with Iran, and I am not sure whether it makes any real difference what his intentions really are. In either case, the end is likely to be cataclysmic.
