Every police officer is not out to make their quota or looking to make their reputation off of your pain or name. Police officers are there to keep the peace or provide for you the best security possible. There are times you are driving on the highway, and you have so many things on your mind you might zone out and lose the fact you have started speeding.
This happened to this couple, but the end of the story is not what you expected.
Maxine Morgan was driving with her husband, Jimmy Morgan when Deputy Jackie Loveless pulled her over for speeding.
“So I really wasn’t paying attention to my speed going down the road,” Morgan told KSLA. “I was paying attention to my driving. But my mind wasn’t there.”
Morgan was focused on the memorial service being held for her daughter, Daphne, who recently died. She and her husband were on their way there when Loveless stopped them.
“It’s hard, very hard,” Morgan said. “It’s the hardest thing in the world to have to give up one of your kids.”
Morgan explained to Loveless where they were going, and his reaction was to reach inside the car and take their hands.
“I asked her, ‘Ma’am, do you mind if I pray with you?'” Loveless said.
They did not hesitate to accept his offer.
“When the spirit of the Lord comes up to me to pray, I’m obedient to him and pray with that person,” Loveless said.
“It just touched me so much,” Morgan said. “He took the time to pray with us.”
“In the middle of prayer, she grabbed my hand and held my hand real tight,” Loveless said. “And tears started coming from her, tears of greatness and tears of appreciation.”
Loveless let Morgan pass without a ticket, Opposing Views reports.
“Jackie understands we deal with a lot of people, but in a lot of times in the most stressful, critical event they’ve ever had to deal with in their lives,” Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington said. “He exemplifies, first off, a man, a Christian man.”
“I think he was our miracle that day,” Morgan said.
On the difficult day that Morgan had to bury her daughter, she said she will also remember the good that occurred because of Loveless’ prayer.
“We needed something that day and he gave it to us,” Morgan said
Deputy Loveless, you sir, are a class act. Thank you for your service both to the community and to God.
