Donald Trump has expressed a desire to lower the confiscatory corporate taxes, highest in the developed world, to the equal of other nations. Ford knew this was coming, should Trump be elected, and it appears more and more likely each day. Ford still plans to move ahead with moving production, and jobs, out of the country.
I am not a protectionist and favor free markets. That being said, we are the largest consumer market for Ford, and as such, we have every right to expect them to be faithful to the country that gave birth to Ford. So yes, if they choose to disrespect our country, and take production across the border when those products could be made at the same costs here, there should be consequences.
I think Ford is making a huge mistake, both in public perception of their product and in their obligation to our Country.
From Fox News:
Over the next two to three years, Ford will move all small-car production out of the United States to Mexico.
Donald Trump said on “Fox and Friends” this morning that this is something he’s been warning about for years.
“Five years, six years, seven years, I’ve been talking about it,” Trump said. “That’s why I’m doing well in Michigan. That’s why I’m doing well in Ohio.”
“States that make cars, they like Donald Trump.”
The Republican nominee added that he couldn’t believe Ford’s “brazenness,” and it’s something he’s going to deal with when he’s president.
“When they make their car, and they think they’re going to get away with this … when that car comes back across the border into our country – that now comes in free – we’re going to charge them a 35 percent tax.”
It’s a great idea! Also to the liberals, that is how you make Mexico pay for the wall. Not that hard of a concept. I used to love Ford because it was built in the USA, not so much now. Now thousands of Americans are going to lose their jobs because of this. Shame on you Ford.
The cost of doing business in the US is way to high – regulation, taxes and other costs that are mandated on businesses, especially small businesses that can’t hire armies of people to push papers particularly suffer. There should be a significant effort to help decrease the cost of doing business in the US vs. just hitting a company with a tax for moving production toward slave labor geographic locations. Without cost reductions at home, this is just an overall increase in the cost of production.
