Try At Your Own Risk – Man Shows How To Pass Through A DUI Checkpoint

A Constitutional rights activist in Florida has found a novel approach to police DUI checkpoints that allowed him to drive right through without having to roll down his window or even speak to the police. In the video posted on YouTube, activist Jeff Gray drives up to a checkpoint with his license, registration, and a note contained in a plastic bag hanging from his rolled up car window by a string. The note contains the following message:

I remain silent

No searches

I want my lawyer

As you can see from the video, Gray was allowed to pass through the checkpoint without incident.

Before you try to do something like this yourself however, there are a few precautions you should take.

First, know the laws in your state as well as Jeff Gray knows Florida’s laws or you might not have such a good outcome.

Second, make sure the plastic bag is sealed and firmly attached. It would defeat the purpose if your paperwork fell out of the bag, or if the bag fell off your car. Be aware that if the cop were so inclined, he could simply tear the bag open to get a better look at your license and registration, making it necessary to open the window as he hands them back to you (which makes my fourth point very important).

Third, be sure your vehicle is up to standard as far as tail lights, license plate, etc., because those are all items which give the police a reason to stop you and you will have to roll your window down to accept the ticket you will most certainly be issued.

Fourth, and this is the most important thing to remember even if you don’t take this approach, do NOT drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs; even if you successfully make it through the checkpoint, you may not make it to your destination alive.
