Two NYPD officers shot responding to robbery; video shows suspect involved; massive manhunt underway

Two New York City Police officers were shot and wounded Monday while responding to a robbery call, authorities said, but their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened after 10:30 p.m. in the city’s Bronx borough, at East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue.

One of the officers, 30, was shot in the left arm and lower back and was listed in critical but stable condition, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said at an early morning news conference. The other officer, who’s 38, was listed in stable condition after he was shot in the chest and left arm.

The officers’ identities have not been released. Both of the officers were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital following the shooting.

One suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle but crashed shortly after. He then fled on foot. A massive perp search is underway in the area of 188 Street and Park Avenue. Hundreds of police officers as well as Emergency Services Units, K9, and Aviation Units are canvassing the area. Power has been shut to the Fordham Road and Grand Concourse train tracks as police comb the area. The trains are being held as well.
