WAARadio The Conservative Cauldron 9/26/14

Just in case you missed last week’s Conservative Cauldron, some of the things we talked about (and there were many) was of course the beginning of targeted air strikes in Iraq and Syria. Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from United States Navy ships in the region. These strikes were designed to take out such targets as; weapons supplies, depots, barracks, and other buildings used for command and control. But many military experts, including former Generals, say that air strikes alone will not be enough. Eventually, there will have to be some number of American boots on the ground. And what of the timing by the president? Is it political? There is an election coming, and Democrats are not expected to fare well.

As the talk of terrorism was front and center with the air strikes on ISIS, the nation was horrified on Thursday as a man in Moore, Oklahoma, walked into a food processing plant that he had just been fired from and beheaded a woman and wounded another. Alton Nolen was a recent convert to Islam, and was reportedly attempting to convert his co-workers. His Facebook page was riddled with anti-American propaganda and pro-terrorist images and passages from the Quran. The question now is will he be charged with an act of terror, or will it be just a straight murder charge? You know, as in work place violence. If our federal agencies cannot utter the word “terrorism”, how do we expect them to actually fight a war on terrorism? That is a chilling prospect because obviously,  the terrorists are here.

One of the biggest stories of the week was the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder. His departure comes amid plenty of scandal; the Fast and Furious gun running scandal, the IRS targeting conservative groups, and the attacks on the consulate in Benghazi in 2012. The big question now becomes who will succeed him? The expectation is that it will be someone as liberal and ideologically driven as Holder. There are also rumblings of a possible Supreme Court nomination. But there would have to be a resignation on that body before that could take place. There has been talk of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg stepping down, but she has been adamant that she is not going anywhere.

Conservative author and film maker, Dinesh D’Souza, was sentenced to eight months confinement, a $30,000 fine, and some community service for federal campaign finance violations. The low-level violations seemed to have garnered an unusually punishment for D’Souza, whose documentaries, “2016: Obama’s America” and “America: Imagine the World Without Her” have been critical of the president and his administration. Conservatives are asking if Dinesh D’Souza is the recipient of political payback?

And finally, what would your Friday night be without a dose of WTF? A Windsor Ontario man was stopped at the Detroit/Windsor border in August attempting to smuggle 51 turtles in his sweatpants. Authorities suspect he was going to sell them. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison. He might have had bigger problems if those turtles were snapping turtles.

About Becky Noble

My name is Becky Noble. I am married to Randy. No kids, just a 50lb Border Collie mix who thinks my house is hers! After almost thirty years in the healthcare field, it is time to move on, and do something different. I hope to have a career in politics. Don't know whether that will continue to be writing and hosting "Conservative Cauldron Radio" on WAARadio on Fridays, or perhaps one day running for office. I am excited to pursue a new path!
