A Bergen County police officer smashed open a minivan window to free a crying, sweating 2-year-old girl left by her mother in the parking lot of the Hackensack Costco this afternoon, in a rescue captured on cellphone video by a Palisades Park couple.
Cell phone video of the scene shows two men apparently trying to pull open the window before Carrion arrives and smashes it open. A second police officer can be seen comforting and holding the child.
The police officer confronted the child’s mother when she arrived at her car with a full shopping cart and a second child in tow.
“Is this your kid? You left her in the car!” the sheriff said.
“Sorry, sorry,” the mother can be heard saying.
“No sorry, she could have died!” the sheriff fired back.
Chaeyoung Lim-Kim was arrested and charged with child endangerment. The child was taken to Hackensack Medical Center and turned over to her father.
