The single greatest contributor to the misery of the people in any society is not poverty, banks, corporations or even crime. The single greatest contributor to the misery of the people in any society is the indifference and malaise of those people.
When we live in a global society that still does scant little about human slavery in some countries, apartheid in others, and institutionalized rape and pedophilia in several countries while trying to tear down their own “evil rich” who produce the jobs and do most of the work of donating to causes that fight said issues, there is a gigantic disconnect in our world view.
But the real evidence of this destroyer of humanity is in the personal interactions we have with each other on the street every day. We have reached a place where we will not only pass right by a person who is injured or otherwise suffering; but we will go so far as to make a video of it, add silly captions and cartoons to it, then post it on the web and have a good laugh.
Meanwhile, the person we took the video of dies of the brain injury received from the fall we chuckled about. Our indifference to one another, coupled with our lack of respect for the sacred nature of life itself, is the single greatest contributor to our own misery. When we can’t even find it in ourselves to stand up for someone who is right in front of our face, we establish that we don’t give a damn about anyone or anything but our own tiny existence.
Then, when it is our turn to suffer, we have the nerve to shake a fist at the sky, yell at whatever is at the center of the universe, and curse humanity for showing us the same indifference. How dare we.
The single greatest cause of violent crime–including rape–is the entitlement mentality. I have been raised by my society and my government to believe that I am entitled to whatever my personal desire dictates. I have also been taught to shun personal responsibility and have little respect for the gift of life. Thus, I will take from you, by whatever means I can, that thing to which I feel entitled.
The single greatest catalyst is the abuse and neglect of children. Children, who are barely done being children themselves, are giving birth to a new generation and attempting to remain the little party animals they are with a kid in tow. This creates an environment where we can hardly expect the product of such a birth to become anything more than a statistic.
Worse than this, we have people with a complete disregard for human life shucking out their pups; but only the ones they choose to keep. The others, they have sucked down a sink somewhere and have absolutely no compunction about calling you a bigot if you even remotely question the prudence of the act.
We have a society full of children that have decided that nanny government should be coddling them and suckling them their entire existence, then wonder why the offspring of these folks often turn out to be so screwed up in the head that they need to be medicated or become perpetrators of violence.
At the government level, we have people content with keeping us slaves and so intent on doing it, that they have made a concerted effort to destroy the family as an institution. I have said before that I don’t care if you are straight, gay, or so kinky that even a chiropractor can’t fix the bulges; you have no business raising children if your entire existence hinges on the snubbing of society or spite for societal values.
And when our societal values are consistently in flux and being manipulated by a governmental elite with no other intent than to keep us dependent on them, we are never going to raise independent well adjusted kids.
How can we teach the difference between right and wrong, when we keep inventing new shades of gray to paint our social fabric?
“Don’t let your special character and values, the secret that you know and no one else does, the truth – don’t let that get swallowed up by the great chewing complacency.” (Aesop)
