I am going to hit this decision by Governor Scott Walker on both sides.
During a fundraiser at the St. Louis home of Rex Sinquefield, Missouri’s most active Republican donor, Walker reasoned that it “doesn’t make a ton of sense for him to pour cash into Florida” with Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in the race, said one person who was present for Walker’s remarks. Bush is a former Florida governor, and Rubio is a senator from Florida.
Let me say first, Republicans need to get over this attitude of searching for the ideal, rock solid, 100 proof, hard-core on every issue, conservative. That candidate does not exist. That attitude in 1980 would have resulted in a second term for Carter and Reagan would have been an afterthought in history.
Compete everywhere, like you think you can win. Playing only to strengths is a sure sign of weakness and I am sure there are some that will reconsider any support for him!
PRO: Walker probably does better by letting Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio fight it out in Florida, with one of them coming out mortality wounded politically. As a winner take all state with seven media markets, anyone who wants to compete must spend at least $10 million in ads, not to mention an expensive ground game to be competitive. Walker could probably gain as many delegates that same day in Midwestern states, while spending less campaign money for a losing effort in Florida. Sounds like a smart strategy.
CON: If he wants to write off the third most populated state, go for it. He just might wish he hadn’t after it is too late. And, if he can’t beat Bush or Rubio, who had to lie to the voters in Fl to get elected, then maybe he’s just not up to the challenge in the big show either. To me this is an admission of weakness. NOTE: If you check the numbers lately, Jeb is actually on the slide. Donald Trump is whipping the golden boy’s arse right now. .So he’s not nearly as big bad and tough as they say. Squishy is more accurate.
Summary: Governor Walker, don’t skip Florida – you have a lot of people who admire your moxie, and what you’ve accomplished, especially fighting the Unions, in Wisconsin, Gov. Walker! I don’t like Jeb Bush & but I do like Marco Rubio, too, but you’re still more than in the running in Florida!
