Why Pat Quinn Is Driving Illinois Voters Away

WAARPat Quinn’s sketchy tenure as governor is giving Illinois voters a second look into the election, raising doubts about his ability to get re-elected. Here are a few reasons why:

1) Quinn has a record of lying, which is no surprise. In one of his ads, he attacks Rauner for not wanting to support a higher minimum wage. We know government intervention for raising the wage is not a good economic policy, but the point is to reveal the dishonesty here. Rauner said it was a mistake for him to originally oppose increasing minimum wage, but he changed his mind and included how it can be done in his op-ed piece in the Chicago Tribune.

Quinn also lied about an increased income tax on Illinois citizens, claiming it was just temporary. However, he made the 67% ‘temporary’ income tax increase permanent earlier this year.

Citizens want to hear the truth and solutions instead of lying about the other candidate. They are feeling the pain and struggle from a very bad economy and just want to get back to work.

2) Pat Quinn is corrupt. His $54.5 Million anti-violence program launched one month before the 2010 gubernatorial election has been recently uncovered and has been described as a slush fund. Auditor General William Holland explained his findings on Quinn’s Neighborhood Recovery Initiative:

“Our audit of the NRI program found pervasive deficiencies in [the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority’s] planning, implementation and management of the NRI program.”

Rauner has repeatedly spoken about his belief that Quinn can eventually go to prison over his corruption, and if he does, he would become the 5th Illinois governor of the last eight governors to go to prison.

The American people have the stereotype of politicians as being corrupt and rightfully so. They usually hold a zero tolerance policy, and when a politician is caught in a corrupt act, it is very difficult to regain their trust.

3) Quinn could be the Obama of all the governors, because his record is just that bad. Combined with his lies, manipulations, and corruption comes his miserable economic record and the state of Illinois as a whole. In fact, the Illinois Policy Institute reported that only 500 jobs were created in a nine month stretch from August 2013 to May 2014 for the entire state. Illinois is last in job creation and also has one of the worst credit ratings in the nation. Thanks to Quinn, the state also has the 2nd highest rate of residents leaving the state. On top of that is the 2nd highest property taxes nationwide, fourth highest workers compensation costs, and a pension crisis that is threatening to make Chicago the next Detroit.

Earlier in the year, Rauner was up by double digits in most, if not all the polls. However, that gap has decreased as we draw closer to the election, and it is now becoming a dead heat. The We Ask America poll conducted last month had Rauner ahead 44-41. However, the Real Clear Politics average from 8/18 to 9/25 had Quinn ahead by 1.5 points, so Illinois is going to need all the support it can get if we’re going to turn this state red.

Citizens of Illinois want solutions, not lies and excuses. The state wants a governor that can bring back jobs and economic prosperity, and job loss along with additional tax hikes is adding frustration. This race will continue to be a dead heat until election day, and only time will tell to see who the voters will vote for.
